Expansion of Afghanistan’s Exports and Efforts to Reach New Markets Through International Exhibitions

Expansion of Afghanistan’s Exports and Efforts to Reach New Markets Through International Exhibitions

In recent months, Afghanistan has taken important steps to boost its export products through participation in international exhibitions. From October 19 to 22, the Afghan-Kazakh Exhibition will be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where 69 Afghan companies will showcase their products, such as carpets, dried fruits, saffron, and precious and semi-precious stones, across 80 booths. A delegation led by the Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce and 250 Afghan businesspeople will attend the event. This exhibition is a key opportunity to increase exports to Central Asian countries, as Afghanistan’s annual exports to the region currently stand at only around $100 million, while imports remain significantly higher.

Another major opportunity is the upcoming "Istanbul Halal Expo," which will be held from November 27 to 30 in Turkey. This is the third-largest halal exhibition in the world. Afghanistan will present its export products, such as fresh and dried fruits, medicinal herbs, carpets, handicrafts, and other goods, at this event. It offers a valuable chance for Afghanistan to introduce its products to international markets, especially in Europe.

Additionally, a special carpet exhibition will take place on January 7, 2025, in Turkey, where Afghan carpet producers will participate. The Turkish Carpet Association has shown strong interest in cooperating with Afghanistan’s carpet sector.

Through these exhibitions, Afghanistan can create new markets for its domestic products and take significant steps toward building stronger trade relationships with regional and international partners. Just last week, the third Imam Abu Hanifa Exhibition was held in Kabul, featuring 700 booths where both Afghan and foreign businesses displayed their products. These events reflect Afghanistan’s growing efforts to expand trade and showcase its local products to the global market. It is hoped that such initiatives will help Afghanistan find new markets and strengthen its role in international trade.
