In the first six months of the current solar year, Afghanistan earned nearly $80 million from the export of licorice root and saffron. The main international markets for these agricultural products include India, Pakistan, China, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and the United States. During this period alone, 617 tons of licorice root worth $57 million were exported from the country.
Licorice root and saffron are among Afghanistan’s most valuable agricultural products, with high demand in global markets. These products not only bring significant economic benefits but also help enhance the international reputation of Afghanistan’s agricultural sector. This year, Afghan saffron was once again recognized as the world’s highest-quality saffron at a global competition in Belgium for the ninth time.
To further increase exports, more support needs to be provided to farmers and exporting traders. Finding new markets and easing customs procedures are especially important steps to expand the international reach of these products.
These achievements not only contribute to Afghanistan’s economic growth but also create major opportunities for farmers and exporters to succeed in global trade.
